由Lead Safe Mama进行的测试发现，51种牙膏中大多数都含有铅，包括儿童牙膏和市场宣传为绿色的产品。
其中约90%的样本含铅，65%含砷，近一半含汞，三分之一含镉。
虽然华盛顿州的标准限值被超越，但联邦标准未被触犯，这引发了公共卫生倡导者的广泛批评，他们认为没有任何铅的暴露水平是安全的。
